KATRINA IN NEW ORLEANS
After Hurricane Katrina swept across New Orleans, it became really easy to find a job there since they were rebuilding and just needed anyone they could get. Every job possible was available to anyone, almost literally. My buddy Bob went down there just to help with the rebuilding efforts and wound becoming a Personal Injury Attorney in New Orleans. He hadn’t even passed the bar nor had he ever attended law school nor had he ever had any interest in becoming a lawyer or more specifically a Personal Injury Attorney in New Orleans. They just really needed someone to fill the position that badly and he happened to be walking outside the courthouse when they randomly picked someone to do it. All right, all right. I’m kidding about all that, but I wanted to make up an exaggerated example to prove my point. They were hiring almost anyone for almost anything. Of course accepting a job down there meant that you had to live among the rebuilding efforts and not everyone could stand there. A younger friend of mine named Jeff even asked me how they would ever be able to rebuild New Orleans again and what was the point if there would just be another hurricane or flood to destroy it. But they did rebuild it and they’ll rebuild New Orleans as many times as it takes.
